Native American box

Large oval Native American bentwood box with painted details on the top and sides. A very old box. The base is in pine and the sides in ash bark. The outside seam is now missing and the box shows some wood splinters, nothing out of the ordinary considering its age. The lid fits perfectly. Condition as found. The interior is covered with newspaper dated 1836, Montreal, Quebec. I had a real pleasure to read the story of a majestic circus that came to La Prairie with an elephant, a rhinoceros, 60 men, 14 musicians and so on! The box is constructed with small wooden dowels. Even if the 2-color zigzag pattern and the flowers are slightly erased, it is a wonderful box! Quebec, first third of the 19th century.

The base is in pine side in ash bark. The outside of the seam is now missing and the box shows some wood chips, nothing abnormal considering its age. Lid fit perfectly. In as found condition. The interior is covered with a dated 1836, Montreal, Quebec newspaper. I had a real pleasure reading the story of a majestic circus that came to La Prairie with Elephant, rhinos, 60 men, 14 musicians and so on! The box is constructed with little wooden pegs. Even if the 2 colored zizzag pattern and flowers are faded, it is still a wonderful box. Quebec, first tier of 19th century.
